Beijing, abbreviated as Jing, is the capital of the People's Republic of China. Beijing is located at the northern end of the North China Plain. Part of the southeast is connected to Tianjin, and the rest is surrounded by Hebei Province. Compared with the urban population, Beijing is the second largest city in China after Shanghai, and also the total hub of land and air transportation in China.
With a history of more than 3,000 years and 850 years, Beijing is the city with the largest number of world cultural heritages, a famous historical and cultural city and one of China's eight ancient capitals. According to the United Nations report, Beijing's human development index ranks second among Chinese cities. Beijing has successfully hosted the Summer and Winter Olympics, becoming the world's first "city of double Olympics".
